Thanked: 3Anyone ever seen these items?
I was at an antique shop and came across 2 items i have never seen or heard of? The first was a Kanner Strop? The second was a strop dresser? Any info on these items would be great, and I was also wondering if they are worth picking up? I didnt buy either of them because I was hoping to find out if it would be worth even owning them1 thanks alot!! -BRETT

Interesting bits of history.
I cannot believe they have any value beyond history.
Over they years all sorts of contraptions were invented in an attempt
to solve the steel vs. whiskers with no collateral damage war.
The strop dresser is interesting... keeping a strop in good shape
then and now takes care. I have taken a round knife steel and
rubbed the surface of my leather strops, made me feel good and
distributed strop dressing better than a spoon. In the day folk rubbed all
sort of stuff into their leather to change how they worked. Some crazy
and terrible ideas made it into print and still surface.
Buy them to use -- No.
Buy them for historic value -- sure -- but if you do not know what they are
historically you are not in a position to know the value.
Have fun...

The top guy looks like an early edition of the Twinplex Stropper for DE blades. My father used one during WWII when blades were scarce. He wasn't too impressed, IIRC. I have it in the drawer.

Thanked: 3thanks a lot! Yea I was trying to figure out how you would stick a straight in between those 2 leather wheels? I guess a DE blade would fit a lot better!
