Thanked: 0Little advice?
Ok, I'm trying to find my first proper straight razor (I'll probably look into having a reputable honer and sharpener from on here make them sharp again), and while using the list of good/reliable brands found in the beginner section to find a good price I stumbled upon a couple of eBay deals. I know I know, I loath eBay too. But I was wanting to get some better insight on I these are worth risking the bid at all
Any and all opinions are quite valued

All of them would make very acceptable razors. The one Clauss would have to have some restoration work, but the blade looks like it is still serviceable. As far as bidding, those prices can raise in a heartbeat, so set an upper limit and good luck.

eBay is a bit of a gamble. If you want vintage check classified ads here and you should find a nice, shave ready razor at a decent price. Also, you could post in the wanted section. Good Luck!

Thanked: 0Thank you both, I had a feeling they weren't bad picks, was trying to avoid pitting and rust on the blade as well as chips. The scales can be torn up and chipped and stained with whoknowswhat long as the blade is good lol!

Thanked: 0Your probably right. But I'm really trying to stay in the $50 dollar range still, I'll probably just wait a while.

This one has the end of one scale broken off. There is a lot to be said about beginners shying away from eBay because of the many inferior razors being sold that are new, but useless. You seem to have an idea of what you are looking for and are not falling into the Zeepk, Kriegar, Buckingham, etc., trap. Buying from eBay can be successful if you are careful and use good judgement and use the "if it looks to good to be true" maxim. If you have any questions about the item ask the seller for more information or additional photos. A reputable seller will gladly comply. Also, use this forum (as you are doing now) to get additional insight before you pull the trigger on an auction.
Good Luck!

3/8 Electric Cutlery Newark NJ (with some nevr-dull polishing applied) $5 from razor emporium. Not bad I thinks
4/8 Clauss barbers special Fremont. (Some nevr-dull applied without much affect, the scales cleaned up a little though!
