Thanked: 0Thiers-Issard 6/8 Razor (carbonsong c135 steel)
Hi all,
This is my first straight razor and was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about it.
From what I've heard the steel is very tough, does anyone know how hard exactly? (RC ?)
Although I won't be trying to hone it anytime soon, I'm thinking of ordering a hone now, that way I can order the hone, soap and brush all in one package. Which natural hones would be up to honing this steel? (I apologize for specifiying naturals, but I really would prefer them to a synthetic, even if this makes the learning curve slower!) The Translucent Arkansas I use for chisels is rc 64 to my knowledge, which I believe would not be able to deal with a hard steel like this.
Any other comments related to this steel/razor would be great.

Thanked: 13245The last write up I saw from TI was targeting 62-63 for the c135
It isn't that they are "Hard" but they do have a propensity to get chippy at the edge..

russell4cook,
+1 on GSSixguns comments
I have honed my two (2) C135 on my coticules (La veinette & La Verte) with no issues. I have finished with both a translucent Arkansas stone (100 passes !!) and with a Celebrated Thuringian stone, again with satisfaction. Having said that I still prefer to use my Naniwa Superstones for these razors
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 13245+1 with Russ
Yeppers same here, all Finicky brands go to the Naniwas SS they are such excellent and gentle polishers they just nip the issues in the bud
If I was dead set on Naturals then a proved J-nat would be the direction I would take, but it is still a crap shoot...Last edited by gssixgun; 10-12-2013 at 04:31 PM.
