Thanked: 2Food Grade silicone
I read somewhere that for those of us who are going to keep our razors for more than a week without using it, it would be necessary to invest in this:
Do any of you use this or would it be better to use something else?

If I'm putting a razor away for awhile in my rotation, I give a nice coating of Tough-Glide, put it back in the box, and into a large zip-lock bag with several packets of dessicant to ensure dryness.
At some point, have to hit the local cigar shop and find a nice cigar box with the built in slots to store my razors, along with a de-humidifier and continue to use the dessicant packs.

Thanked: 2Does it really matter if the lubricant is food grade or not?

Thanked: 4826It does not matter if it is food grade or not. I always wax my my blades with ren wax and oil my pivots before I put them away. Everyone has their routine. We all come to a point of things just working and stay there.

Thanked: 3224Then there is mineral oil/baby oil which I use only if going on vacation. We don't have a humidity problem so that works for me.

Everyone has their favorites. If I'm gonna use a razor even every few months I just use sterol. For really long term storage I use A.J Russell no rust which is a silicon based preservative which I find is the ultimate.

Thanked: 5I use a .5% mineral oil solution in rubbing alcohol after each shave and the razor goes into rotation for a week or two. Once the alcohol has evaporated there is an oily residue on the blade.
You don't have to be insane to do the things that I do, but it helps.
