Thread: 1960 Tuckmar Solingen

Hi!

Im new to this and just bought a straight razor. Its a Tuckmar form solingen from 1960 (never used). I wonder if this an ok razor and what would be a normal price for this one?

Not tried it yet, its on its way form Germany right now. Im reading the forum, lots of nice info. I see forward to try shaving with it, only used shavette until now. Tomorrow i have to go out get me a strop, not easy to choose one :P

They allow one mistake around here before they come lop off your head . It does look like a nice razor and if you type the name in the search window you may find a few posts with more info on it. Your going to find the straight a little different than your shavette so give it some time to get used to it.

Tuckmar's are a good razor it will serve you well.

Make sure it has been professionally honed,

your time with the shavette will help tremendously in getting going with the traditional straight.

As far as the Strop goes, many will say not to go over the top for your first as some damage is likely while you learn to strop.

I am not familiar with what strops are readily available near you but I am sure a few that do know will be along shortly.

A razor is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it, and that will vary from individual to individual and razor to razor.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Tuckmar is a known quality brand and if it shaves like the one I have you will be very satisfied. Don't be too worried about asking the value, many have innocently done so before. You can do a search of the sold listings on the bay for an idea on that if you want.

There is also a Nordic regional forum here http://straightrazorpalace.com/nordic-region/ if you haven't noticed that yet too. I am sure a few of the Nordic region members will be along shortly to welcome you and provide info on what is a available in your area and provide mentoring if you want it.

Nice to hear its most likely a good razor. I was going to buy a Mountain Mike strop with latigol/Linen, but maybe i shcould go for a cheaper one if its a big chance i will ruin it :P

I dont know if its pro honed Pfries. I hope so i have no hones myself yet. But i will try to hone in time.

can not wait to start use a "real" straight razor. Also see foward to stropping and honing.

I was told that DE and straight razor was dangerous and bloody stuff. But its not, i havent got any big cuts with DE or the shavette (just baby smooth results) yet so im not so scared for the straight eiter

Actually its kind of a joke with double meaning. I probably shcould tell you that im kind of visually impaired after an accident, and that german and norwegian have a lot of similar words.

"Sehr" with meaning "very" but sound the same way as "see" on norwegain (ser).
So meaning will be See-good-NOT" :P or just "very good, NOT".
