Thanked: 0Berkshire Cutlery "Finest English Steel" razor
hello all,
I'm new to the forum. I've acquired a razor that used to be my great grandpa's. I'm getting ready to dive into cleaning it up and renewing it's edge, so that I can shave with it. Could any of you tell me more about this blade? Pictures attached. And, thanks!

Thanked: 634I am not an expert so my info may not be exact. It is a square point with what looks like an almost straight back. Looks like the blade only measures about 4/8" and has been sharpened quite a bit. Putting that aside I think after some cleanup and honeing it should be great. Good luck.

Berkshire was a brand name used by the Simmons Hardware Co., of St. Louis, in the late 1930s. Simmons sold quality merchandise so the steel in your razor should give you good service. Unless you are experienced at putting an edge on a straight razor, I would suggest that, after you get it shined up, you send it to one of the honemeisters who inhabit this forum for a professional sharpening. Good luck!

Since you are new here have you looked to see who in your area are functioning as mentors. Most of the mentors are more than willing to do a one on one sessions with you till you feel truly competent to operate on your own and often will hone that razor for you for the experience and teaching opportunity .
If you change your info square on the left side to show where you are at a mentor may even get in contact with you."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Thanked: 0I've updated my information to include my location. If there are any members in the area that provide what was above discussed, let me know. Aside from learning the technique, I usually enjoy the company and meeting new people.
