    Default Puma Gold 79 Scales?

    Hi,
    I have just aquired a puma gold in pretty bad shape. The description stated 7/8 and next to my 6/8 crown and sword I would have to agree however I'm finding it very difficult to find any information about this size razor. In particularly the scales, which Im guessing are not original and seem to be a very soft wood. Im aware the 5/8 and 6/8 all have yellow acrylic scales but I doubt finding a set would be an easy task. Any info on this razor would be helpful as I cant seem to find much out. Thanks guys

    It's known to be a very high end razor. Probably came with celluloid scales which are known to go south via celluloid rot. I imagine those replacement scales were done because of rot.

    The razor is pretty beat up, could be celluloid rot as thebigspendur says.

    Is it possible that those amber coloured puma scales that are typically found on puma gold scales be made of Bakelite as opposed to celluloid?

    I doubt it. Back in that day and time celluloid was the most common material AFAIK. That blade is a poster child of what early cell rot looks like. Here is what it looks like if it is left to progress indefinitely ;

    Cleaned up okay in the end, still some pitting but still a great razor
