    Default Dull J.R. Torrey Razor

    Hi guys,
I am a beginner to using a straight razor but I have always been intrigued after seeing my brother use one. I had to buy a Torrey Razor, 1 because it looked to be in good condition and it was cheap (I am a college student, low funds) and 2. Because I am from Worcester, MA where these were made. It is "The Artist" model and I love it just purely because it is from Worcester and it is Simple. At first I thought the tugging and rough shave was just my inexperience but I am about a month in and I figured I would have gotten a closer shave by now, then I tried my brothers brand new dovo razor and got the best shave of my life. Does this mean I need to get my razor honed? And if so how much does that usually cost and where should I get it done? Any other tips are always welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks

Check out the Classifieds here at SRP. Under Members Services there are pros who do honing. They list their prices. Was your razor honed when you bought it?

Welcome Andy,,,, Start of spending some time in the Library section, above, while you send your razor out to be honed. Look in the "Classified" section for vendors who can hone your razor.

    Enjoy your journey.

My friend has given you some very sound counsel!!! I hope you will enjoy the journey!!! Just remember that this Art takes patience and if you lack patience then this Art is Not for you!!!

Be patient and enjoy the journey to an older but better way of shaving!! !!

Torreys have a very good reputation for being very good shavers. I'm sure when it comes back you will be very happy. They are also fairly reasonable in price. Happy shaving

Has your brother offered you any advice on this? Maybe he can hone it for you.

Thanks to all of you, I will check out the classifieds, hopefully my wallet can afford it. He has never honed any, he started a year or two ago and bought 2 brand new dovos and an old torrey just for sentimentality, He has the luxury of being older, having a real job, and having already paid his student loans back.
