Default New old SR. Rescale or use as is?

    Hey guys,

This is only the second SR I have purchased and I think it was a good score at $15.00. It says it is manufactured by Hilger & Sons Germany and has a nice eagle etching. The scales have one small crack where the blade closes but otherwise it seems in very good shape and would be easily usable with a clean and sharpening. Does anyone have any info on this maker and/or razor specifically?

I am a woodworker and love tinkering with old tools and am wondering if a razor like this is best left alone or would rescaling it be beneficial? I am not planning on selling it but down the road one never knows as I tend to go overboard collecting cool things until the point I need to thin the herd (this has happened in the past with all my collections/obsessions). I hate ever selling anything but I have learned not to mess with some things as it can greatly affect value...

Is this SR desirable and worth restoring for value? Or is it one of those "cool but not really valuable" type razors and I should just make myself happy with it? Thoughts?

    Sorry for the crummy pics...

You may be able to sand and polish the back scratch or chip in the scale. Not the greatest view from the picture though.
