Thanked: 0wade and butcher razor
does anyone know if the old wade & butcher straight is a good blade. I' m think of buying one off ebay, hollow ground with it notched at the end.

Welcome, rshave1
W&B's are usually GREAT blades. Make sure it isn't too degraded and you're likely to get some sweet shaves out of it.

The one W&B that I have in my rotation absolutely rocks. It´s a wedge, but still. It inspired me to get my dirty paws on a W&B full hollow.

I have two one is almost minty condition and the other has some hone wear. Both are great shavers, neither one were very easy to get honed and took some time and effort to get them to shave properly.

My favorite razor is a W&B "For Barber's Use" meat chopper. It is heavily worn -- blade width & spine -- and still qualifies as a meat chopper! The smiling edge makes it work so well everywhere to include the hollows of my neck. Notched blades just look so good to me too.

I believe I read in another thread that the notch was to facilitate one handed opening by catching the notch on a pocket or belt loop, etc. It also helps for two handed opening; the notch is easy to catch with the fingertip especially when wet or soapy.
