    Default I dinked my razor

Dang! Kids were all on the bathroom counter watching me shave and being their typical monkey selves, and I got distracted. I dinked the heel on the edge of the sink, put a nice notch right there.

Interestingly, after stropping, it shaves fine. But at some point I'm going to have to remove that, and it's a lot of metal.

I try to let only one of my monkies at a time into the room while I'm shaving :-)

Interesting followup here. I took the notch about halfway out, but then started second guessing what that would do to the bevel angle, spine, etc. Remember that on this razor I had to straighten the spine by grinding it flat, so both sides have considerable flats on them. One side has a big flat in the middle, and no flats on the ends and the other side has the reverse.

So, I stopped a worked up the progression. Since then I've 'rehoned' on 3 different finishing stones, and shaved a few time. The notch is there, but completely imperceptible. Very surprising, but there it is.

Sounds like a typical warped spine to me. Does the bevel look the same?

Yea, sure does sound warped. Something like a rolling X stroke heal forward is how I attempt to cope with a warped spine.

It WAS a warped spine: I ground it flat, and both sides (bevel and spine) have the flats you would expect from that. Sitting here typing, I realized that grinding it flat probably made the bevel angle somewhat more acute, and that grinding out the dink will probably not hurt anything despite increasing the angle.

It's still warped, only you compensated for honing I've got a few warped edges that don't have warped spines, so they don't always coincide.

Don't worry about the angle, unless it no longer holds its edge. Factories have not calculated the perfect angle for their razors, there is enough room for play.
