Thanked: 0Thiers Issard
Okay, here we go. My very first post as a complete newbie fresh-chin in the world of hygienic meditation / straight razor shaving!
I have recently purchased my very first straight razor; a Thiers Issard 'Dreadnaught' 7/8" with rams horn scales. My mission is to primarily use it, but also have a beautiful razor to pass down to my future children.
You may think it's a quite expensive razor for a 1st buy, but I've saved up for this sucker and it was my grandmother's wish to continue the tradition of passing down straight razors.
My question is; as I'm looking to create my own 7 day set through the years, what other brands look and feel similar to that of TI? I would like to already now find brands to monitor for new (or old) designs that would make a nice addition in a 7 day set.
Be gentle. I'm as new as they come and don't even have full facial hair yet!

Thanked: 62Very nice razor. It should provide provide you with the motivation to stick with straight razor shaving long enough to learn what the rest of us already know.
I have a few nice TI razors and I do like them, but I would not buy another. The cost of a custom razor is not so far above that price point, and I believe the generally superior workmanship and attention to detail make them a better value than any "factory" razor.

Thanked: 0Could you perhaps throw me some names of possible customizers? That would be greatly appreciated!
And thank you

Thanked: 0Nick I started down a similar path and at about the same starting point.
My first recommendation, take your Thiers to a master honemeister and get him to put a professional edge on it. I have a Thiers Issard Le Grelot, I took it to a honemeister and he said that although I could have shaved with it like it was, he could make it incredible. And he did, it shaved like nothing I have ever shaved with. Now I am hooked.
When I started looking at custom razors I found this thread. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...i-start-2.html
I looked at several and have ordered a Max Sprecher as my first custom.
Good Luck.
