Thanked: 485That's nice, but it certainly has seen some rust, hasn't it!? I don't think you'll ever get rid of that deep pitting on the tang and spine, so my thoughts would be to not think about trying to polish it up all shiny, but to leave it with the patination.
I think that'll hone up OK. I think they call they style a faux frameback, i.e. it doesn't actually have a removable frame, but it's in the style of a frameback, so less steel is used...

Wade & Butchers have been around for a long time, they quit making them around 1890, are highly sought after, are very good razors and top notch shavers. I'll have to admit I've never seen that particular model/style before, very interesting.
It should clean up pretty good with metal polish and/or wet/dry sandpaper. I like original and would clean the back of the blade pretty good but ease off a bit on the front to preserve the etching. The only concern I have are the spots in the bevel on both sides. If all are like the one at the heal on the front of the blade they should hone out pretty easy but it's really hard to tell without having it in hand.
Clean her up, give her a good honing, enjoy the shaves! Congrats on a rare find!"If You Knew Half of What I Forgot You Would Be An Idiot" - by DoughBoy68

From my understanding, W&B stopped making razors around the early 1900's. If a W&B has an, "England" on the tang, it signifies this 1900's time frame. Another member provided that info here when I thought a W&B wedge was dated around the mid 1850's. Your razor doesn't have the England stamp. Here's the blade that I was told was from around the 1900's, notice the, "England" on the tang. Hope this helps...cheers!

Thanked: 485I believe in regard to country of origin the date is 1891, pre 1891 the country of origin didn't need to be indicated, after then it did. That also means that W&B must have been making them after 1891 as many DO have the country of origin. I'm no expert though...
A couple of interesting links, esp the second one...

That razor was made sometime between 1860-1890. The big 'Marquee' style of lettering became semi-popular for awhile during that time period. I have a couple of other brands with the same type of lettering style.
Here's another thread that was recently started about this razor:

Thanked: 2284In my opinion, these hump back, faux frame backs are the sexiest blades ever made. The style is one of my favorites. When it's all cleaned up, it's going to be an awesome razor, I'm sure. The price you paid will also make it that much sweeter!!
