Default Who know much about a J A Henckels 78 straight

I picked one up at an antiques shop for $21.50 and think I have a score. Any idea how young or old it may be? What size, description, type of steel, ground anything or info would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

you have to remove a lot of steel to actually remove the pits. A less aggressive approach is to use metal polish like Mothers, or Flitz, or Maas. If you combine it with steel wool (0000) it will clean deep into the pits, you can then polish with Mothers on a rag afterwards. It will remove the corrosion but not the pits. Never polish a shave ready razor and expect it to be shave ready afterwards.

    P.S.
That one has pits close to the edge and should be honed to a bevel set first to make sure it will be able to get to shave ready.

There is no evaluations permitted in the forums. Henckels is a top notch brand but sadly the don't rate very high on the scale of vintage razor values. Even if it is perfect it will never be high priced.

when im curious about current prices I go to auction sites and check the most recently ended listings. gauging the finish prices by the condition I take a value from that. its not a complete indication of value but shows the markets limits (high and low values) in most instances. there are always exceptions though. the blades I go for are usually in pretty rough shape but ill pay 3-4 times current average prices if I really want a blade bad enough. I just see some blades and HAVE to bring them back to life, its a sickness I have.
Shaun is spot on with his advice on your blade and I look forward to seeing the results as well!
