    Default Grandpa's old straight

My grandfather heard me talking about getting into wet shaving this morning and he found it ironic because the other day he decided I was going to inherit his old straight razor since he hasn't used it in years. He went and pulled it out to show it to me and it's made by Lion Razor Works Germany. Is this a company that isn't around anymore? I haven't found anything for them on Google or Bing.

If it's old, and it's german, it's probably good.

If he hasn't used it in years, you'll need to get it honed, and possibly restored.

    Do you have pics?

I've been trying to get a decent picture of it, especially the stamp but my camera is old enough it won't zoom in enough to get a pic that isn't blurry. The condition it's in appears to be pretty good though. It goes without saying it needs rehoning since the last time Grandpa used it was prior to WWII. There is a little nick out of one of the scales and the blade is a bit discolored but the thing is still sharp and appears to be in real good condition.

Have you since had and used this? Is it good? There is one at an antique store I'm considering for a restore and wanted to know if the steel is quality. Thanks!

I doubt you will hear from the op. He was active for only 7 posts across 10 days. This happens with some frequency, as I've noticed in my short time on this forum. I'm too enthralled by this hobby to do that. And I hope that you will stick around as well: it'd be nice to have someone else in 'The Fort that isn't tempted to call the whitecoats on me when I mention shaving with a SR . (Even the 'ole codgers at the plant ask what's wrong with me lol.)
