Default New home for a Bismarck

Made an offer on a vintage Bismarck on the bay, my offer was accepted...now to wait for some it to get to me!

I'll post the pics that were up...the mark on the tang looks different than what I've seen on other original Bismarcks, in addition to having shoulders as well.

Bismarck's are very fine shavers. When I bought my first Bismarck the member who sold it to me said the pre Dovo Bismarcks (yours may be one) were better than post Dovo Bismarcks. I've bought two since that I think were post Dovo and sold them both recently, I'm keeping my pre Dovo Bismarck. I like it so well I put Ivory scales on it.

I'm hoping that it will be as good as the other original Bismarcks that I've seen and heard about. I've just never seen this particular stamp on the ones I've seen. Not sure if that means it's older or what the deal is. It's also curious that this particular one has shoulders, seeing as they are usually shoulderless...fine with me though, makes it easier to strop. If anyone has anymore info on this particular Bismarck, I'd appreciate it greatly!

It was marked shipped today...hopefully I'll have it soon so I can get started. Gonna clean it up, then send it to Val for it to be re-scaled in royal blue kirinite, and then honed.

You mean Val in Toronto, the gentlemansden? Great guy, I've met with him a couple of times, he's doing a couple of blades for me now! Small world!!!

Haha...he's the one that did the 9/8 W&B's...he's got another W&B 7/8 Celebrated Hollow Ground I just got from E-Bay for a steal, and two other blades that need some work.

Can't wait to see how your Bismark turns out....if Val's doing, I know it will be spectacular...you must be itching to get it!!

I got the crown and sword from him that you may have seen recently. On the Bismarck though, I'm doing the blade restore bit, then sending it to Val for scales and honing. Same with the frameback in the other thread

In my experience this is true of all Fritz Bracht marked dovos, too - they are far superior to most modern Dovos. Similarly the pre Dovo Bismarcks are also very fine razors.

Finally got a chance to take some pics of the work in progress razors. The Bismarck is in far better shape than I thought when I bought it. The scales are in really good shape, other than being warped and causing the razor to hit the scales enough times to create some microchips on the edge
