which has the best blade
I have the goldedge the satinedge dwarf as of now I don't have the wonder edge. is there really a difference. I'm still new and still trying out the razors I have. so far since I've got a better hang on things they all are doing pretty good. My old 7/8 Sheffield 1/8 hollow so far is my favorite.

Thanked: 603You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I'm real fond of the big Sheffield wedges myself but the DD Satin Wedge is a real fine shaver for the smaller (mine is 5/8) wedge. As stated above you don't see many of them. I got lucky and found mine at a local antique store for $20 with mismatched (Bengall) scales and quite a bit of rust but it cleaned up pretty good.
rhensley, I just noticed you are located in TN. Where in TN are you located?Last edited by DoughBoy68; 12-23-2013 at 08:15 PM.

Thanked: 1184I have tried a couple of these Duck things out and they all seem different to me. Most of the difference is going to be in width, length, and toe shape. The SatinWedge being more different than the rest with the Wonderedge right behind it. The Wonderedge seems more solid like the steel is harder or something but you may not feel the difference and I may feel something that isn't true :<0) Then of course there is always the actual sharpness of each blade.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I have had all the "Ducks" and shaved with them all. My opinion is all of them shaved well, there was not a noticeable difference. Most were 6/8 and of course my opinion does not include the wedge or 7/8 aka 8/8 blade. They all honed easily and kept a good edge. So in answer to your question, it is all personal preference. Personally, I think they are overrated. My opinion.

I also have a Henkel 5/8 and a Bismarck that came out of a junk store. they looked bad when I got them. but shaves good. The 7/8 goldedge I have does ok but not a good as the cheapest razor I have and it was a rust bucket blade. I think I gave 4.50 dollars for it. I bought it to practice honing. who knew

Not that there are any hard and fast rules, but I like big Sheffield blades and rather dislike my SatinWedge. The SatinWedge is a similar grind, but the steel is harder, and so to me it feels very unforgiving. Might even say harsh. Maybe I just haven't managed to get it dialed in yet, but I think the difference in steel/HT/whatever is very significant, even with the similar grinds.

Thanked: 4I have an old 7/8 J. Rodgers that shaves better than anything else at the moment. It seems heavy but handles great.
