Question What is special about Dovo Astrale?

I am wondering if there is anything special about Dovo's Astrale razor. I rehoned my Astrale I got from "pinklather" about three years ago. I took it up through the Naniwa 8k and stopped there. After a vigorous stropping, I got a magnificent shave and was afraid to go to any finish stone for fear of ruining the great 8k edge.

Can anyone tell us what makes the Astrale so special? Did I just get lucky with this blade? It shaves just like it was finished on my Light Green Escher. I just can't explain the great edge on this razor coming directly off the Naniwa 8k.

Does anyone else have an Astrale that seems special?

im interested in the answer. i really really like the design, but im torn between the astrale which i like the look of or a stainless steel for the longer lasting edge and better rust resistence.

Nothing, as far as I can see...

I have honed quite a number, but apart from being a decent razor I have never found anything especial about the steel.

I would expect that within a certain price range, the only differences w
made by Dovo would be blade and scale styles, not steel formulation.

+1 to the above, I think you just did a really good job on the 8K. If it shaves brilliantly, don't hone it any further, there's no point

I don't know what is different about these, but I always look forward to honing them. They are easy (unless trashed by someone ) and the shave is always really nice.

    Have fun

Thanks for the comment Lynn. I knew there was something different about this blade. That is what prompted my post. I got a shave that one would expect from a higher grit stone. It was the very best 8k shave ever for me. I guess there is a reason why we don't see many Astrales for sale.................
