First razor is a vintage Dubl Duck Dwarf, your opinions and help please.
Well after studying and watching on this forum and others, I have jumped into the world of SR.
I decided to go with reconditioning a vintage SR first and went shopping today at some local antique shops to see what I could find and was hoping to find something German, Sheffield or in the "better" range for 50$-60$.
After looking at several I had my choices down to 3, 2 nice Wade & Butcher's Sheffield made for $60 and $65, then to my suprise (or atleast from reading everyone seems to want one) a Dubl Duck Solingen Germany blade for $95.
I hadn't even thought I would run across or be able to afford a Dubl Duck and this one was labeled a Dwarf.
So I looked online quickly, the guy gave me a lower price of $85, and I bought it instead of the Sheffield blade.
Now I need the next step, any suggestions of who to send it to.
And most important, did I make the right choice. I was worried about spending a little more not being sure of the value.
Pleas be honest, what do you guys think.
Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Thanked: 60Welcome! As to which is a better choice it's largely personal preference, as both are quality blades of some repute. You can look in the member services section of the classifieds here if you're looking to send it out and have it honed up to a nice shave ready condition. Did you happen to snap any photos of the Wade & Butchers?

Thanked: 4249Welcome to SRP Chris, Honestly the blade looks to be in good condition from the pictures and in sure it will turn out to be a great shaver. That said the razor looks like it was rescaled and the pinning job looks pathetic, not 100 percent certain but i think most DD all have 3 pins.

DD are nice but as for original scales lots of them had issues like warping and cell rot. but you cans sometimes find good inlays and a good restorer can make you scales that will look original but will not be prone to disintegration.
I have about 14 various DD right now they are all great shavers.
enjoy,

Thanked: 1184You did great as far as I can see. Not that I am biased towards Ducks or anything but I think you got one of the best :<0) I mentioned in another post you are spoiling yourself. As long as the blade closes without hitting I wouldn't worry about those scales. They look close enough and you don't really want original ones believe me. All you need is a pro hone and your set for life on that one. There are things you can do to the scales later if you want to fixer up fancy.
