Thanked: 3John & Williams Ragg Napoleon Sheffield England
Merry Xmas all, I was given this razor for xmas by my dad who is from Sheffield, it came in a Joseph Rodgers & sons case. The razor itself has obviously seen some serious use in its day as the blade is quite worn. I like the patina on the blade so i would like to keep that but want the edge restored by someone with more experience than myself as the edge of the blade isnt straight. Just wondered if one of the collectors on the forum could maybe give some insight as to approximately how old this razor is based on the pictures.

Thanked: 1184Nice present . It does look used but not too abused. I have an old Hand Forged Duck in worse shape. 1 of my first razors. It's looks don't show how well it still shaves that's for sure.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I don't know the history of the razor but with that slight frown and wear level I would think someone like Glen (gssixgun) or Lynn at SRD and the forum's founder would have insight on it's restorability. Based on the razors that I have bought it seems that short of big chunks taken out of the blade they can be restored to a very useful state. A couple of my better shavers came to me in wretched condition and thanks to a very good honer were brought back to a useable level.

Thanked: 4249John & Williams Ragg company was founded in 1831, that said your razor by looks and the stamp on the tang, Sheffield England is post 1891, probably around the turn of the century.
The razor has some honewear but looks like it will be shaveable again, look in the classifieds for mrmbers doing restoration.
