Looking for suggestions on 6/8 or larger Razor
I have a Gold dollar 6/8ths razor and like it. I am looking into getting a razor of at least that size and looking for recommendations. Not looking to spend a fortune. If there is a site or somewhere else to search, please let me know. I search the classifieds, here and on B & B. I watch ebay, but not sure on what manufacturer i am looking for. Look forward to your suggestions and recommendations. Thank you in advance.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

the larger Sheffield's usually have good steel. but then again so does the German blades. look for condition. I like the larger heavy blades. the names of the older razors to me is not really that important because I'm not a serous collector just a user. good luck with ebay

Thanked: 4826When looking for a larger blade are you looking for a wider blade or a heavier grind. For me the shave changes more with the grind than the size. There are a lot of nice sheffields out there at a reasonable price but I doubt any of those will sell for anywhere near the price of your gold dollar. The vintage German razors are nice in good shape as with the English or French. The key here is condition, so if you are shopping on the bay be very selective. Happy hunting.

Thanked: 4826Thiers-Issard Special C. Straight Razor 6/8 Ebony
That is my favorite French razor. It is half hallow, but not a Vintage. All of my Vintage blade either came from Ebay or in the wild so it's tough to use them for examples. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Wade & Butcher, Frederick Reynolds, Joseph Rodgers & Sons, George Wostenholm & Sons to name a few Sheffields. They can be expensive but most generally worth it. The big/heavy Sheffields are easier to find than the German (Solingen) razors.

Thanked: 284Are you looking for new or used? If new, you can head over to SRD or similar vendor (Dovo, Aust, Boker, etc). If used, do you know if you like heavier grinds or otherwise?

Thanked: 40The larger Spanish Filarmonicas are nice shavers. The Doble Temple 13 is a 6/8 and the 14 is (7/8 or 8/8). I really like my 14.
