    Default Inherited Razors

First post on the forum! I looked through this forum quite a bit when I bought my first straight razor about a year ago and I love it. I finally decided to join because I just inherited 2 straight razors that I can't find any information on.

As you can see they will need some work. I have looked through lots of Google pictures of Boker blades and haven't seen any like these. I emailed Boker and they said their records were destroyed and they had no information on them. Has anyone seen anything like these before or can anyone direct me to a place that might have some info? Also do you think these are restorable?

Here is the one that I bought from Dovo and am currently using. I love it!

I guess I forgot to say the most interesting part. These were given to me by my grandmother this week after my grandfather died. They were originally his father's. I also got a strop made by Illinois Razor Strop Co.
    Geezer and jc50 like this.

not that many of us have heirloom razors. They are highly cherished. Welcome to the forum and happy shaving.

For some reason putting my great grandfathers blade to my face after so many years was such a special thing to me. I am happy you have an heirloom razor as well.

Look like they'll fix right up. I honed and rescaled a pair of inherited razors for a pal. He's learning to use them.

I don't know anyone else with inherited razors. My first one came from estate sale where i knew the deceased. I always call it "Larry's razor".

It's interesting to think of all the mugs shaved by the old blades one collects, just like thinking of all the meals prepared in the 100 year old cast iron i use.

    cheers

My only inherited piece is the shaving mug you see in my avatar, from my grandfather whom I never met.

Funny thing is, if it weren't for that connection, I wouldn't use it at all: it's hard to use, requires a skinny brush and a second bowl (until I'm better at building lather on my face), etc. But I keep returning to it and using it, and reflecting on what I know about its former owner. Using it reminds me to keep asking my mom questions about her father. The connection becomes more meaningful for me the longer I use it.

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear from the others that your find looks like a manageable restoration.

Well I just found the Boker Brotherhood, so I think I'll take a look there and see what I can find! Lots of reading to do.

I enjoy restoring and using old carbon kitchen knives for this exact same reason.

I have been lurking on this forum since mid December when I started SR shaving. Got my Dad's Wester Bros #34 over the Christmas holiday. I remember watching him strop so I know he used it. There is a special feeling when shaving with razor from a loved one who has passed on.
