Default Japanese Kamisori style - The search is on.....

I am on the hunt for a quality Kamisori style razor. I currently use mostly wedges and all is well but I feel wanting....maybe a Kamisori?

I don't know much about the different manufacturers "or craftsmen". I know there are not many left and I don't know if I trust the newer makers to be a quality product.

When I mention "quality" I do not mean especially expensive, just quality.

This will be my first Japanese razor and I really don't know about the honing process. I have no issues with honing a standard wedge or smiley razor, but the grind of the Kamisori is much different. I know the blades are of a bi-hardness metal that is softer at the spine with a blade that is extremely hard.

Just looking for a good source for purchase and some good teachers to explain the honing process.

    Thanks, Dave

Can't help you much on choosing one, but I have found these to be very helpful when it comes to honing kamisoris:

    Glen's vids:

    And Lynn's:

EDIT: You'll notice they each have a very different approach, so as with so many things when it comes to straights and honing, YMMV. Pick whichever approach works for you and go for it

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I believe glen has a video on YouTube... I believe It's 5 on the face and one pass on the back side the face and the back are opposite than on a standard straight razor

VERY VERY Pricey!! Depending on what you're looking for you can find much better prices elsewhere. Nothing against this vendor but if you do some research you could save yourself around $400 on some of those blades.
