    Default Another Cell Rot Thread

I should have taken a pic before I pulled the blade out but I was so bummed I didn't think of it. A Wester Bros Manganese steel with a 6/8 blade and beautiful scales. Stored in a cool, dark and dry cabinet waiting for me to get around to honing it. Must have been in there a year.

I pulled it out to give it a look and to my horror ...... freckles along the blade, peeked into the scales and saw puddles of a moist substance generated by the scales themselves.

You can see the stuff plainly in the photo. The blade is going to be alright, wasn't 'that' far gone. Just a shame that the beautiful scales are shot. Note the wedge end decorative cap that is showing corrosion from the gassing. the reverse side scale, and blade show no evidence of damage or deterioration.
