    Default F W Engels

    Guys,

I just wanted to get some opinions from experts.

i found a razor on the ebay and I can't stop looking at it. I love it. I wanted to see if the price reasonable, is this guy reputable and most of all is it a good shaver?

    thanks,
    Kyle

There is a current thread titled something like Nice SRs Down Under that I believe is the same seller. Favorable reviews.
I'm no expert but that razor is a beauty.

I have never bought from him but he has a lot of pretty nice razors fairly steady. Some of his stuff is rather spendy, but that is just one mans opinion. If the RAD is strong and you aren't going to spend money you haven't got go for it. The razor is a good name for sure.

F.W. Engels razors are excellent shavers. I got two; a Hänsel und Gretel 5/8, and a Special 6/8, and they are both superb. See my post: http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...ml#post1130342
They hone easily, I do mine with Norton 4/8k, Naniwa 12k, and they take a killer sharp edge. Being full hollow they give great feedback and very comfortable shaves as result.

The slim tang has no jimps, but still gives a precise grip between my fingers and the razor handles very well. Also I find them easy to strop as they roll easily because of these fine tangs. The spike point is a thing to get used to though, but for me that’s part of the charm. Of course the point can always be muted.

The one you showed looks very good. The blade looks like everything it should be and the description seems to fit the photos. The price is very attractive!

If I was looking for another F.W.E. ‘Special’, this would be a very convincing option. Maybe the seller can send you some more pics if you ask.

    Good luck.

    Regards,
    Paul

Check out my thread titled antique store find. I found a near mint special not long ago. Amazing condition. Beautiful blade. Here is a pic of it. Mine has never been unpinned. Not sure if they are all this way, but mine has a blued tang. That blade on ebay may have the tang blued at one point too, prior to restoration:

Why am I not surprised you have multiples in mint condition. Having seen some of your collection this is no shock to me.
