Thanked: 2I think a heavier razor is for me!
I just received my Capital Cuttlery Black Steele straight razor in the mail today. I purchased it from SRP member simpty52. The packaging was great, bubble wrapped, toothbrush travel container & tissue. Great seller.
I couldn't wait to use it, so as I came home from work just a few minutes ago(2am Pacific, HI) I touched up a few missed areas from today's earlier shave. This razor is heavy & that worked for me. It seemed like the weight carried the razor through each stroke with minimal effort on my end.
Do fellow SRP members have a weight preference ? I think heavy is my Groove as I'm used to heavy clippers(Model 10 w/ oversized brushes internally). Or is it bad technique & due to my growing pains?

Panlee,
A straight razor's weight is a matter of personal preference. After some years of straight razor shaving I prefer a moderately heavy razor.

Thanked: 4249Welcome to SRP Panlee, I wouldnt consider this razor a heavy one but then i never used a Capital Cutlery. If you like heavy razors then perhaps a vintage wedge is for you, it would be heavier then this razor for sure and they are a pleasure to use, and almost silent while shaving.
Stimpy52 is a top notch seller and member around these parts and im sure he put a really good edge on your razor perhaps thats the difference? Enjoy!

Somewhat heavier for me. 14s are ideal.
The extra touch of momentum the added weight gives the blade seems to allow it to slice through my course beard hair with less effort than a lighter blade.John

I enjoy them all as grinds and blade styles all have their own nuances.
From the silent wedgy whisker whackers to the more delicate feeling of extra hollow grinds.
Now it is more a matter of what is my flavor of the day if you will.
I can see how beard type would play into what your primary preference is though. It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!
