Default What was this Filarmonica rescaled with?

    Howdy folks-
Bought a Filarmonica with scales that I strongly suspect are not original.
the pins are different and the bolster has a crown that reminds me of something German made...

Any guesses what the scales originally belonged to?

    thanks

Possibly Otto Fromm scales, any guess at many Solingens which used that bolster!.

I wonder if they really were replaced. I bought a Cattaraugus Cutlary SR with Fromm scales like this bit the pins appear to be quite old so while researching the razor I found the same scales on a Maryland brand razor on ebay, and now this thread. Is it possible they made replacement scales or sold scales with their name on them to other manufacturers? Is it likely they made some razors for these other brands with the other brands stamps in the steel? What do you guys think?

Yep. Pretty common bolster design. they may just be older aftermarket scales... a lot of old ads I have seen for straight razors also come with a quote for replacement scales etc, so I assume replacing scales with aftermarket ones wasn't out of place when these razors were made.
That said, good luck with the fili! love those things

Yea, I would certainly agree that the scales are not originals, but as I was once told by a very experienced shaver, you don’t shave with the scales and you have an excellent blade there. The first generation Filarmonica razors are some of the best shavers ever made. Enjoy it!
