How do you like the Kamisori? I have been thinking of picking one up in the future. I carry Spyderco knives and that Japanese steel gets very sharp!
I have been antiquing, looking for the right price on some razors and to be honest, there have been some crummy deals.. 25 bones for a run of the mill razor that is completely encrusted... I found a guy with over a hundred razors in a display, each priced separately. They all were priced at the top of their value.. All the good ones were bought. I like the idea of shaving with a piece of history, but I need to find the right price first.
Bought my wade and butcher on Ebay for 25, its in really nice shape. 4/8, kind of a little different to handle for me, but well worth the price and a nice addition. Let me know if you see any more like that!
I bought the Iwasaki new, and I have not had a chance to use it yet. I got it from Takeda Aoki. There are some nice ones for less money than the Iwasaki blades. I'm assuming they do the job just fine, but I'm not yet an expert. I would like to have a right handed Machida. But none were in stock...I'll have to wait and see.
About 20 currently in rotation or being restored (the aim being to turn over those I don't wish to keep after restoring and shaving with). They include 2 new blades, and the remainder vintage of varying ages, types, and countries of origin. Some of them pictured here:

At the height of RAD I had around 30 straights - trying to get it down to around 5 now to fund other ADs hehehe!
Add 1 more to post #39. Just picked up a 6/8 Kropp yesterday at an antique store. :).
Oh how I love the hunt!!!!
Yes - the hunt is quite a thrill, and add 8 more to post #27...half are out getting cleaned up and restored, the other half are on their way here to Phrank's Lair...[need an icon for evil laugh]!
:gwh:
As I pull back from the fever in my mind I can see that this is ALL about the journey! There will NEVER be enough blades under my care - so that must mean it's the "getting and restoring/honing" them all that matters. The shaves just "happen" every day or two and I have a great selection of tools to get that done. Of course it doesn't hurt that I have plenty of razors to choose from when my preference in blade grinds change. Used to love big hollow grinds but now I'm "off" them for a bit and am really liking 5/8 to 6/8 half hollows for some reason. ..and as I write this I just realized that the guy that has my ebay login has 16 current bids going for auctions on my behalf - I should probably report him but I always just sit back and smile when a nice batch arrives. ...uh, wait, make that 17 auctions....
Joan when I get new blades in I normally put them in the "recent arrivals" box until I can look very closely at them and decide what needs to be done to each and then move them to where they belong. Sometimes - and I mean "sometimes" - one arrives that I only need to clean, disinfect, polish on the finishing stone, strop, and use. They're the special ones!
I just recently moved a tad past the 200 mark. I need to stop.
Added a few more Kamisoris...one from Machida and a Takahashi Kanetake...I'm now up to 6 in total.
and here i thought I had a problem with too many underroos!!
I have Zero razors, looking to order 2 pretty quick! you guys have me scared...
sad part is i was in Munich a couple months ago, saw a couple of straights in a window at an antique shop, wish i knew now, not sure if they were a steal or not, definitely needed some restoration, but, who knows..

5 razors and growing... I'm not finish.
I did some organizing and found most of them. I counted 38 boxes plus three tool chests. The chests have over 300 restoration blades without scales. I have no idea how many are in the boxes. Eventually I hope to have time to work on them!
Wow - think I can help you organize them, send all blades 9/8 and over bearing a stamp on the tang that reads something like this, "Wade and Butcher", and on the blade itself, look for something that say's, "The Celebrated Hollow Ground", and below that, and this is key, look for, "For Barbers Use", OK. Then, to organize them further, and inevitably make your job easier, look for one's that have a square tip, it's a right angle at the end of the blade, and the point may be spikey. When you get all those blades together, PM me and I'll tell you where to send them.
If you don't have any of those, fine, then just throw the whole lot out then....
I've got about 60 right now. 98% of them are American made (Case, King, Union). The other 2% are German. Everyone should have a Henckels or two or 20!
About a month ago I owned a modest three razor collection.
Now I've got number twelve on the way. RAD sets in quick around here :D
