Ever seen a blade like this?
Vintage Shumate Razor Co Shumate Barber Razor No 018 Made in USA | eBay
This "blade cover" is mystifying to me. Can anyone shed some light?Last edited by Siguy; 02-07-2014 at 05:24 PM.

Thanked: 3That looks pretty interesting! It looks like a safety clip that locks into the blade for when your not shaving :P
Wouldn't want to put away a wet blade thats for sure!

The tang stamp says it all. It is a safety guard, protect your fingers as well as the edge. Supposedly.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Genco also made razors like this. I'm sure a few other manufacturers did also. The guard is used to protect the face while shaving. Here is an ad for the Genco model. I wonder how many laps on your palm would be enough.

I happy you snagged it, Razorfeld(look at that, I spelled you name right . I thought it was a good deal as well. Fascinating gimmick I'd never seen before.
I really get a laugh out of the vintage razors that have been ground nearly to dust, well, level with the tang at least.

They come up every now and then. I was made aware of them a goodly number of months ago here on SRP and had been lusting for one since.
JSmith1983, what is the source of the Genco ad?

I stole the picture from Ebay after I looked at the link for the Shumate.
