Default About feather ac dx lifespan and care

    Dear sirs,

i realy like this razor (stainless steel) and stocked blades for the rest of my life... İ shave daily and stocked over 25 boxes... 1 box for each year

But i ofc have to keep razor in good condition for 30-35 years

    My setup is follows.

Rinse it without removing the cap (to keep mechanism in good condition and also to avoid blade to go dull) but presaing enough to let the water in and just use some cotton to make it dry

i use mineral oil and alochol to disinfect and keep condition monthly

actually the mechanism under the head makes me worried.

    Any suggestions?

I rinse mine then I take it apart and wipe it down thoroughly with a paper towel, after that I leave it out to dry for a day before I put it back together just to be sure that there's no water left, I think the mechanism can take being taken apart and reassembled once every shave, it is a quality piece of equipment after all.

I think I'd maybe be more worried about water and grime in the mechanism that you wont get to without taking the razor apart.

Like Baxxer said, clean it after every shave, you will not hurt it. Everyday put a nickel in a jar and after 10-years you will have saved enough to buy another new razor.

I have about 10 DE razors and use one a week until I've used them all. I then use a sonic cleaner and pop each one individually (to avoid scratches) in the cleaner for the full pre-set time which I think is about 5 minutes. Each one is placed in the cleaner dis-assembled. I use a cleaner specifically for use in this type of cleaner or about a quarter teaspoon of citric acid which also removes soap scum.
Once out of the cleaner I dry them on kitchen paper. This works for me and brings them back to new.
I would stress that I don't use this cleaning method for my straights as I'm sure the sonic aspect would damage the blade!

It's an interesting thought, thinking about what would be more detrimental to the razor in the long run, metal fatigue in the springs or buildup of water and grime in the mechanism.

Since there's no one who's shaved himself 7500 times with the ac dx, maybe there's a barber somewhere who's used his feather that many times on customers but I highly doubt it.
