Boker Elite s/n 007 just arrived. (The name's Elite, James Elite.) A week shy of a year from when I saw a prototype and ten months before the supposed production date, I managed to get my grubby little paws on one. My "guy" thinks it's the only one in the states.

Now all I need to do is convince gssixgun to put a Spanish point on it and I'll be in Boker heaven.

Nope, just got here. Has the factory edge, of course, and a slightly uneven bevel which will be no problem to correct. However, I do want to put a Spanish point on it and get rid of those factory pins. I hate those nails that they use for pins these days.Quote:

I am glad to know they may actually surface in retail in not too many more months/years.

So this is soon to be a production by Boker?
Well, it may be a while Bob. This all started a year ago when I had a chance encounter with a Boker salesman in a cutlery store, the conversation "somehow" turned to straight razors, and he whipped out an Elite prototype. Of course I had to have one. I've done business for some time with Country Knives in Pennsylvania ("Located on Hwy 772 near Intercourse between Paradise and Blue Ball") because they are big Boker dealers, speak German, and are into anything with a cutting edge so I contacted them & asked them to look into the Elite. They preorderd some, with the production date to be in early May. May along and production was pushed into June, then finally into December! About a week ago I called Boker directly and, in my miserable German, inquired again and was told that production was now scheduled for September. (With typical German precision he told me that production would begin September 26, 2014. :) )Quote:

That's a beautiful razor. With a Spanish point it will be even more stunning.

That looks very much like the Dovo Palisander/Carre/Bismarck blades. My Palisander happens to be a great shaving blade. The Boker tang looks slightly thicker. A Spanish pointed shoulderless, that sounds like a very good look.
Oops, sorry for the late reply, Trimmy, I missed your post. They'll stock them when available. There is the possibility, now that we (and others I'm sure) have raised such a stink about the continuing postponement of production, that they might hurry it up a bit. That's a smokin' looking blade...is that a 7/8 or an 8/8? Looks great, and a Spanish point would be nice.
It's listed as 6/8 and the Bokers are always a touch larger than listed but the "big blade" look is mostly due to a pronounced spine above the contact point. It's in Glen's capable hands now.Quote:

I took some pictures of the Elite and thought folks here might enjoy a closer look. The blade is impressive in terms of workmanship, imo, when compared to a lot of what we see the last few years with Dovo and Boker. I think that speaks well of Boker with this release. I tried to get a picture of the spine work which I found interesting.

Mine came from a knife retailer online. It seems the knife retailers are getting stock before straight razor sellers. I forgot to add that I am looking forward to seeing the results of the surgery on your Elite.

The factory edge seems decent, so I'll give it a whirl tomorrow and see if adjustment is needed.
I just got one from Smallflower and it was #004. Strange number sequencing. Came shave ready. Only current production razor I own, not counting my two semi-customs. Great razor for sure, and proud to own it, but not so great value wise when compared to vintage pricing.
