Thanked: 0Carbo Magnetic
I have just received a lot of 3 razors from ebay, one Max Dorner, one M. Jung and one Griffon XX 60 that says Carbo Magnetic on the blade. The griffon seems to have a magnetic charge. Is that the case with all carbo magnetic blades? whats a carbo magnetic blade in the first place? Anybody ever heard or seen this before ? ALso any added benefits of this magnetic charge?

No benefits to it being magnetic, may even hinder honing, but I came across one that was a nice shaver.

Thanked: 0It could hinder honing because the particules of steel removed from the blade would reattach themselves to the blade because of the magnetism? Thus screwing up the edge? I hadnt thought of that, i guess while honing i should wipe off the blade and the hone every stroke or so? I got the lot fairly cheap 25$ for the 3 but the blade and the spine are in great shape...its actually close to shave ready, what other precautions should i take?

The honing hinderance is purely hypothetical. The one I had honed up normally without any issues.

Thanked: 17Technically, you could magnetize any razor by rubbing a strong magnet along its length. I don't know why you would want to do it, but its possible....

Back in the old days there were no consumer protection laws and manufacturers could call their products anything they liked and endow them with all kinds of mystical powers or at least make the poor consumer think they had these powers. You'll see this all the time in razor names. Totally meaningless. But if you believe, I've got some snake oil to sell you.

carbo-magnetic
I've seen a few of these - always thought the words were just a sales gimmick, you know, like 'manganese steel' (all steel contains manganese). I have a 'magnetic' paddle strop but I think that's along the same lines - just sounds cool!

Thanked: 4942They hone up without any problems and are excellent shavers. The problem is finding them in mint or near mint condition.
Have fun.

O.k...over in one of the General Threads, I posted that my number one favorite razor was something made in England and that I couldn't remember the name of it and was too tired to go and look. Well, after reading this I had to go and look . It's a Clements, made in Sheffield. Ivory handle, round point and in absolute, mint condition. On the blade it is engraved: Highly Magnetized/High Speed.
I don't know if the blade is truly magnetized or not (never tried to pick up nails with it or anything) however, it does take a little extra effort to hone but man...the results are a thing of beauty. The edge outlasts everything else in my rotation and it gives the most easy and comfortable shave I've ever had.
So, if it's anything like mine...it'll be a damn good razor.
I don't know...Magnetized = Secret, Mojo, Magic?
