Do You Have A Reliable Biter In The Bathroom?

So weird. I thought I'd outgrown my neck-nick tendency with square points and I have, sort of.

For some reason this 6/8 square point Rapid Shave (Sunday) still wants to reach out and remind me of failures of perfect concentration. I swear, if I had the whole seven-day set I'd be anemic by now. Finally, after many fine, flawless shaves with this razor it came back to the line up and left me clean shaven and nick free for days. And just when I thought we were at one, a small nick on the chin - and then another. I mean, I NEVER nick my chin and, this time, it wasn't even the point that did it.

It's a poor workman that blames his tools but this razor is self-guided and not always in a good way. I like the razor, the feel, the balance - everything - but it still gets me sometimes when nothing else will. The little bastage came along to keep me humble.

Do you have a problem biter?

I wouldn't call mine a reliable biter, but I made the mistake of using my Jenes Sandor Dragon Slayer when I was in rush.

Yes, mine appeared in the Classifieds a little while ago, a certain Demonically Possessed Straight Razor that came under the name, Double Duck Goldedge spike point...LOL.

Now, this is a beautiful razor if you like extra-hollows, as a matter of fact, this blade looks like a piece of tissue when you look at it's profile. It was the only razor that ever, "cut" me, four times! Before I sent it, and it's brother, a Wonderedge, a bigger razor, but equally extra-hollow, out to be honed by Valery for the final time, I finally shaved with the Goldedge, one pass WTG, and didn't cut myself. I felt vindicated, and then backed cautiously away.

Mind you, I didn't have to shave for a month after that, LOL, but that was my one cursed blade, which now sits in protective custody, in a razor sock, locked in my fountain pen display case.

I love spike points, but this is the only one that's bitten me.

Now that was the clearest example I've experienced of the variance of people's tastes, some love these extra-hollows, while they frighten my whiskers to wither and fall off in panic.

Meh...rub the spike under the bathroom windowsill lightly a few strokes. Fixed!

I got rid of the one razor that would always bite me if I tried to rush or wasn't paying attention and it wasn't even a spike point. The razor would always let me know just who was the boss and to slow down. I still regret getting rid of it. It took one of the sharpest, smoothest edges that I have shaved with. I separated my earlobe from my face, pierced my ear and filleted my skin with it a few times as well as a number of nicks. This is the razor in question, a Case Bros. I just hope this razor is still doing what it does best, giving a nice smooth, comfortable shave.

That was a lovely piece. I am sorry it tried to kill you. You make the point, pardon the expression, of the point not being the problem. My square point has sometimes been the problem, other times... I don't know what. So my position on muting points is, "Why bother if the razor is just plain malicious?" @sharptonn, a son of Texas, disappoints me with casual retreat.

If this thread gets enough traction we might try a mass round robin swap and see if blood flow stops, stays the same or gets worse. I have wondered if my Rapid Shave wants to hurt everyone or just me. There's probably a bit of the Stephen King in some razors - maybe all of them.
