    Default recomendation

when I 've finished with my razor , I rinse it off under hot running water and carefully dry it - but it is gettting a patina of dark spots along the line of where the shaving soap collects whilst I am shaving.

I am concerned this is the start of rust - is that the problem ? and how can I stop it happening?

Wipe it down with a cotton ball soaked with a bit of alcohol. Works wonders for me.

You should also remove all corrosion just to make sure.

Have the felt wheel rotate away from the edge. Dremel brand polishing compound is all I use for minor patina and shallow surface rust, with great results.

DoH! i was thinking of hand polishing - great as I'm a silversmith/ jeweller who also makes knives with full workshops for both steel and precious metals work, you'd think I'd have thought of that wouldn't you

One thing I do every time I finish shaving to avoid trouble like this is to first wipe the blade down with a towel to dry off the majority of the water, then I run several laps on my linen strop to soak off whatever moisture might be on the blades edge (don't want to towel that for fear of damaging the edge or ruining the towel) and then strop it to finish on the leather. I figure a good rub down with the towel combined with a good stropping should rid it of any water that might cause damage to the razor. If I'm mistaken please correct me, but otherwise it might be a good tip.
