Default Hess #42 Stainless Steel, Any good?

I just acquired a Hess #42 Frozen Tempered Stainless Steel w/ Peal scales (I'm thinking Faux MOP?)

Just wondering if there are other people who have used or own this blade and can tell me a bit more about it. As far as how it shaves, is it a low end or high end razor? Any other info appreciated!

+1, Hess was first class stuff and the scales are probably imitation pearl. If they made any with the genuine pearl I haven't seen or heard of one.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Whom ever made the razors for Hess did a very good job and they are considered good quality razors. The scales I have commonly seen on them are the cracked ice type.

I think Hess was made by Bresnick. I would like to know if I am wrong though, I am after all taking that out of my head, which is a confusing place to keep information.

I have three Hess 44's with the cracked ice scales and they are a very nice razor. One of my favorites to shave with. I never did any research on them, I just like'em. I'd be interested in any info. on them also...

Most Hess 42's are 4/8 full concave ice hardened stainless razors, little brothers to the Hess 44 which runs from 5/8 to 7/8.
This model will have 'forty two' inlayed on it's pearlized celluloid scales. I have a 42 which is 11/16, however and is a wedge blade with no inlay on the scales. Extremely good razors which hold an edge better than most. One of the first and best of stainless blades IMO.
I keep one in my rotation and have always liked them.

It's funny you mention that. The seller told me the blade was 5/8 but it sure looked smaller than that. When I get the razor in hand I'll have to measure it but I'm assuming it's going to turn out to be 4/8 like you said.

I'm really just trying to figure out if I over paid. With that said I know discussing value is against the SRP forum rules so I'm wondering if there are any pricing guides, websites or other sources for researching this info on my own?
