Dorf: I was just finishing up the shave when you sent that. Here you go:

First: I like the look and feel of the razor even more than I expected. The 7/8 blade and scales are quite a bit heavier than my Bismark, and it was really simple to control. I had 4 days of stubble so I feel like I really got to see the blade at it's best; and it was a smooth shave. Only one small nick right at the corner of my mouth... That's about par for me.

Here's the breakdown of everything used:

I started with a warmed redneck scuttle and a hot towel over the face.

Next, I drooled over the razor a bit more. It really is gorgeous. Dorf, you asked about gold etching since it wasn't easy to see from the web image: there is none. I'm happy about that since the Bismark does have quite a bit. This sets it apart for me.

I moved on to AoS preshave oil. They say it's unscented, but I disagree. My wife loves the way it smells if she's around while getting ready to shave. Anyone else use it? It's thick, and I know some people aren't big fans, but I like it a lot.

Then came the lather. I ordered the Portland Soap Company's "Whiskey" along with my razor. I'm not such a fan. The scent is nice, but I couldn't get a good lather with it. Maybe it's my technique, but I was disappointed in the soap.

I already mentioned the shave. I wish I needed to shave twice a day, so I could use it again.

After the shave, I used the AoS clay mask. They're pricy, so only for special occasions. This was special. Honestly, it's one of the best parts of the shave. Side note: there's an Art of Shaving here in Seattle, and we stopped in before going to a movie Sunday night. I can't begin to explain how much I actually despise going in the store. No matter what you say, the employees will never leave you alone and just let you look on your own. It's been like that at every AoS store I've ever been in. I was thinking of picking up the sea kelp soap to try, but just couldn't take it anymore. I may get some online, or look for a different product somewhere else.

Once the mask was off, on went the cold towel, followed by Edwin Jagger's sandalwood.

And now my face feels cleaner than a preacher's sheets. Very happy with my Ralf Aust!

Glad you like it! It really is a great looking blade. I use the AOS pre-shave oil too and I like it. I've found that it works best if used very sparingly, like one drop for each side of my face.
