Default Very curious about this razor

    I spotted this on Ebay

Vintage Messerschmidt Straight Razor | eBay

Does the etching on this blade mean it was made by the same company that manufactured German aircraft for the world wars?

I'm curious to know anything I can about it.

Default Very curious about this razor

Very interesting razor. Have not seen one made by them before. Went to google and found this:Vintage OMOR Cutlery straight razor. Cream colored plastic or bakelite type handles. Blade has "Messerschmidt" etched in blade and 1200 stamped on one side. Other side has made in Pakistan. Blade has some pitting and tarnish. Comes in original box. Any question feel free to ask.

I believe I have seen that same type of razor on the bay and it was described as Pakistani in origin. I would guess that blade is vintage Pakistani with no German connection.

Messerschmidt means "knifesmith." If memory serves correctly, it just happened to be the name of one of the German aircraft engineers, who developed that line of aircraft.

Anyway, if this were a German razor, or a razor of any quality, it would have a lot more written on it. There would be a stamp in the tang stating it's place of origin: Solingen, Scheffield, St. Louis, etc.

I have to agree - never seen a German blade without something to indicate clearly it's from Germany stamped into it.

These show up from time to time, usually in large lots of razors.

    They're Razor Shaped Objects.

Unless I'm mistaken, these were made in the early 70's in Pakistan. There were a bunch of different variations, all designed to sound like popular German brands.

You will not be able to hone it or use it for anything other than demonstrating how something can look like a razor and yet be completely unsuitable to the task a razor is made to do.
