Thanked: 0Spanish Point?
I've seen people refer to a Spanish point. I know what a French, round and spike/square point is but what is the definition of a Spanish point. They appear to be flared out at the edge compared to the spine, is this correct?
Would love to see some pics of any if someone has.
Thanks,
John

Do a search. I know of at least 2 threads with Spanish Point in the title and one of them was asking the exact same question.

spanish point
Hi - the type of point you describe is, I think, also called an oblique point and is usually found on wedge razors. I'm sure I've seen a drawing of it somewhere on this site in one of the info sections.

Oblique points are almost the opposite of Spanish points. Think of a Spanish point as a razor with a barber's notch that starts at the spine and goes to the edge. It's like a spike point with the front (flat) part of the blade hollowed out.

Thats a good question, Jmac.
I just did a Title Search of the forum for
Spanish Point', and it found this thread that we're in now and
Spanish point, French Point, Spike or Oblique?
which discusses everbodys favorite end treatment, but doesn't really define what they are. There is a picture of one of Papabulls exquisite razors that is labeled as a Spanish Point, but the angle of the picture leaves some doubt as to the exact geometry of the point. (ie, is it a notch > or is the upper part of the notch vertical?)
There are also Nenad's excellent drawings here,
theres the Henckle catalog here, but, if you don't speak (or at least read) German, it's not a whole lot of help. There's the Razor Anatomy PDF, but all it states is:
BLADES
round point/Rundkopf: the point is rounded. Square point/Gradkopf: the point is square, forming a spike at the transition between point and cutting edge. Something in-between: Franzkopf
Blade sizes (width) are: 3/8", 4/8", 5/8", 6/8", 7/8".
Not much help there. Continuing the search, page 4 of the Straight Razor History and Details says:
Points:
Round Point/Rundkopf: the point is rounded.
Square Point/Gradkopf:
the point is square, forming a spike at the transition between point and
cutting edge.
Something Inbetween: Franzkopf
which is just a repeat of the above.
So, Ilija, a simple search doesn't seem to answer the question, so I'll repeat it:
What exactly is a Spanish Point, and is that an official name, or an SRP convention?

You can also look on this site http://www.shavingshop.com There are several spanish point razors located here. Most are in the 6/8 and 7/8 sections.
