Default A knock on the door

And the mailman handed me a small package. Inside was a George Wostenholm & Sons I*XL. I bought from a woman who is selling off her fathers collection of knives and razors (among other things) to help pay for his assisted living. This was his regular shaver and from the wear on the tang it looks like it. The blade is clean and sharp with a nice bevel. I did a pyramid hone and 100x strop and she easily passed the HHT. I'll use her for a shave tomorrow. Pics are below. On the scales, what looks like discoloration on the left is actually what remains of the original gold leaf in the pattern. It is worn away from use on the rest of the pattern. Here are the pics I took today:

I think I got very lucky. Price was $25 and I know her history too.

Great to see a razor go from one straight razor shaver to another. Very cool find for a great price.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

She is going to take a bit more work. By the time I got to the other cheek she wasn't cutting hair any longer. Finished up with my Bismarck. But I'm not going to give up on the IXL yet. I'm thinking I might need to reset the bevel and than a full pyramid. We shall see.
