    Default New Razor, No Idea

Hey all, Im fairly new to straight shaving, having bought my first of another member early this year,
mum and dad picked this one up for me in an old junk shop in Victoria, (South East Australia)

Was wondering roughly the vintage, as well as the material of the scales, I can post more photos if it helps,
the inscriptions on the front reads, 'Made in Germany, Es Ex" and the back Wald 3118 Solingen\

Measured with Callipers the blade width is 11/16

Its in surprisingly good nick, no gaps, rust or pitting, its just a bit grubby,
but it will need a hone, any recommendations would be much appreciated as i don't have one just yet

    thanks

I believe that to be an ERN.
I have not experienced his edges but Oz has a reputation for great edges (onimaru55)
    you could contact him.

ES-EX German Straight Razor by C. Friedr. ERN.
    'The Famous Es-ex Razor'
    Wald Solingen Germany
    Also Essex & SX
Below information from STRAZORS.com - all about classic razors - Carl Friedrich ERN, Solingen-Wald.

The company was founded in 1873, registrated December, 4 1874.
Located at Solingen-Wald in 1922 and at Kanalstrasse 43 in 1939.

    Carl Friedrich Ern
    (1850-1924)

Carl Friedrich Ern family were razor-grinders (the Wupper grinders, after Wuppertal),
and he took over his fathers company - they honed razors for other firms (in 1860 Nathaniel Ern only ground and honed razors for Henckels),
but soon began to make their own razors. Nathaniel taught his son Carl to do the job - at that time there were 20 workers and seven masters.
Singing and talking were forbidden, drinking never allowed.
The company moved to Wald (to Wittekulle), an outlying district of Solingen,
in 1876. In 1893 they introduced the 'Hexe' machine to hollow-grind razors, said to be a benefit to all razor makers.

    Thanks to manah!
