Thanked: 0I have found this razor and need help to ID and date
G'day all,
I'm new here. I have started to renovate our house, an 1800's era school in Old Junee, NSW. Under the bathroom floor boards I found this old razor, obviously in an ordinary condition.
So far I have it as maybe a Long Life shell with a Gotta 120 blade.
I have next to no idea about dates etc?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Thanked: 3164"Long Life" would appear to be a Grah & Plumacher brand, originally Gebruder Plumacher (Plumacher Bros) in Solingen-Weyer, just like the Gotta is. In fact both are stamped "Finest Sheffield Steel Forged & Real Hollow Ground in Germany and both the Gotta and the Long Life have the 'Hamburg Ring' logo on the blade. The scales are the same too - 3 pins, celluloid ivory effect ('ivorene'). However, yours appears to have the wrong blade in the scales for some reason. It looks like some sort of monkey business has gone on around the pivot pin, but it is hard to say what from the photos.
Grah & Plumacher made 'the Gotta', 'The Gael', 'Feinkland' and 'Silver Ring' - haven't seen "Long Life attributed to them before, but it looks the part. The Gotta dates to the early 1920s, and I would guess yours is mid 1900s.
The blade has been abused - a chip has been broken off the end of it, and there is a fair bit of toe-heavy hone wear for one reason or another. Seeing as the scales look to have a problem - possible a break, cannot tell, if it was my razor it would be considered a bin-job.
Regards,
Neil

Thanked: 0Cheers Neil,
Shame it's not in better condition, but a nice addition to the things we've found around the place.
