Thanked: 18What to do with this Dovo edge?
Sometime back I posted about a steal of a deal I got on a Dovo. I like the razor generally, but one thing is really bothering me. It's a spike point...sort-of. Instead of being a true spike point where the lethality goes all the way to the point, it kicks up at a very slight angle for the last 1/8".
You can see this if you look closely at any of the spike point DOVO's online. The good thing about this is that when I screw up and lift the heel, it simply scrapes at me uncomfortably rather than my face. The bad part is that I bought a spike point because I want be able to precisely nick off stray beard hairs. I can't figure out how to sharpen this little 'kick' without rounding it otherwise modifying the blade shape by making the razor have a 'tanto point' shape.
What say you?

Thanked: 1587I think you can just hone it normally and not worry about that little bit. Or, you can hone that little bit too.
You don't really need a spike point to hit stray hairs precisely with a straight razor. Well, it can help but in my experience it is not absolutely necessary. Stretching and adjusting the angle of the razor in all 3 dimensions will generally accomplish what you need it to.

I think what you have is a square point not a true spike point and that slight kick is normal on them.
I don't think Dovo does a true spike and cannot recall if they did?
As Jimbo said you can sharpen it or not worry about it if that is what you choose. And with a touch of practice you can pick up the strays without an issue. It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

im pretty sure I had a Dovo Bismack awhile back that was actually a spike point. it also had either bone or synthetic bone scales, it was quite awhile ago and details are fuzzy with me on razors I had last month! ill see if I can dig up some pics from my other computer.
and at any rate, if you keep honing away at it eventually the whole cutting edge will be straight across. voila! spike point after overhoning!Last edited by silverloaf; 05-11-2014 at 12:54 AM.
