Thread: Gold Dollar razors

I have three, 2 that I've honed and one that I just bought- shave ready.
While I can hone a razor, I don't consider myself any where being an expert. I didn't find the 2 GD's that I honed to be that difficult to ready.

Thanked: 4249You can get a Gold Dollar make it shave ready, put fancy scales on it and in the end its still a Gold Dollar. You can get a turn of the century American, Sheffield, Solingen, French razor that will hone easilly that was made by a craftsman and enjoy it the rest of your life and then some.
As far as a practice razor seem like so many are afraid to kill a razor while honing, im no honemeister for sure but honestly i didnt kill any yet.Last edited by Martin103; 05-12-2014 at 01:49 AM.

I found it far easier to get a good edge back on a "decent" condition vintage than to get a half assed shave out of a GD. I certainly wouldn't recommend any noob pick one up to learn. At least a vintage that isn't hosed can be brought into shape easily!
The easy road is rarely rewarding.
