1st razor for a newbie
I am looking to purchase my 1st new razor. What would be the best razor for my dollar(under $200.00 US,one has too set limits). Is TI a better choice over Dovo? The Tony Miller sets look great, but I don't need the brush, mug etc...

Dovo or TI would be just as good as each other. Mine was a Dovo and I have just acquired a TI. You will definitely need a strop at the very least. Others here have advised a paddle strop (one of Tony's) as a good starter.
Let us know how it goes!

If you need a strop then I would suggest going with Tony there. the #3 honeybrowns are what he includes in his kits. Very nice strop and good to start out on as well. I don't have a TI, but I have heard that the difference is minor between the two brands. Still I would wait to hear from someone else who has both. if you have 200 and you spend 50 on the strop after shipping, then that still leaves you with enough to get a very nice razor for you first. My first razor was a Dovo Classic 5/8 black which retails for about sixty. I got it with the kit from Tony. It isn't anything fancy, but still a good razor for starting out I think. You can order that Dovo from Tony as well. If you did this then you will cut down on your shipping cost, and the razor will come shave ready as Tony has them sharpened up. Most razors do not come shave ready right out of the box so this would be a good way to go. Classicshaving.com also offers a sharpening service, which is actually just Lynn. This would also be a good way to go, but then you will be paying more in shipping.

For that kind of coin you should get one of each and let me know which you prefer! HAH!

If I were you I'd get a refurbed blade from a member here first. Save the coins for when you know what you prefer, 7/8 wedge, etc.
If you can't stop yourself, I'd recommend the TI.

Unless you've done alot of research and know exactly what you like and know how to hone I would get a kit from one of the guys here. You might also consider getting a junk razor you can use to practice stropping and honing. You wouldn't want to one of those guys who post about getting a lynn honed razor and stropping it and now it won't shave and now what do I do.
