    Default Decent Theirs razor?

Yesterday I picked up this Madaille Theirs Issard 6/8 wedge. I don't know much about straights. I'm just now learning how to shave with a feather AC. So I saw this razor, it has what appears to be horn scales and bone/ivory wedge. It's a wedge as far as I can tell. It defiantly has some heft to it.

Is this a decent razor? I though I read somewhere that Theirs Issard were good razors. I'm hoping $40 was a fair price to pay. I'm not asking for a value just assurance I didn't buy a junk razor. I wouldn't think I would be with horn scales but I don't know much... Yet

Also how can I polish it up without ruining the writing on the blade. It looks to be acid etched or something like that.

    Hello Travis,
Thiers-Issard is a great name in straight razors. Without photos, however, our members will find it difficult to make specific comments on the state of your Thiers-Issard. Please post the photos and I'm sure you'll have ample responds.

With the naked eye from the photo, the razor appears to be in a relatively good shape. Yes, it carries signs of age, and some hone wear, but that's to be expected. Rather than work on it yourself, since your knowledge of traditional straight razors is minimal, I suggest sending it to a professional to have it cleaned up and honed.

1+ on what Obie said, My 1st razor was a Theirs fox and rooster and I love. You have a nice razor there, and it will be a good shaver!!

TI are some of my favorite razors. If you don't hone your own add another $20 to $30 and send it to a pro. That one looks to me to be well worth the price of admission you paid, and then some.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Awesome! Makes me feel god about my buy. I cuts hair on my arm right now but I think I'll probably need to send it out.

    Travis,
Yes, send it out for cleaning and honing to give yourself a good start shaving with the traditional straight razor.
