Default Limited Edition Ralf Aust Razors

Just found this out a couple days ago. Apparently there were only 50 made total. If you are a collector, checking one of these out may be worth the effort. Going rate is about $200 USD +/-. Description is as follows:

"This stunning razor is made using 60 production steps and incorporates a polished rosewood handle. The polished carbon steel blade features an 'American' point and the manufacturer's logo stamped into the shank. Serrations on the shank aid grip and a gorgeous engraving on the spine complete the individual look of this razor. This really is a quality razor to rival the likes of Dovo and Boker and with only around 30 left in the world, when they're gone they really are gone!"

This is the razor displayed on the opening video of the Ralf Aust website.....Nice looking bit of goods.

Even though the USPS had no record of it arriving at the local Post Office, this beauty showed up at my door today. Tell you what, Ralf Aust is on track to become one of the TOP players in today's razor manufacturing arena. The fit, finish, and edge of Herr Aust's product out of the box rivals that of some of my custom razors....at 1/2 the price. I highly recommend if you are looking for a new blade, visit SRD and/or the Ralf Aust website and see what's there.

This is one of 50 made by Herr Aust; I am told there are about 30 remaining. It's a 6/8 hollow grind with Grenadilla scales. Beautiful....

Right out of the box it was a blade that was surely "shave ready". I'll tune it up some on either a couple Naniwas or a coticule . Not sure which right now. One thing..this is a LOUD razor. If you are in the market for a "singing blade", look no further. This will put Steven Tyler to shame....

Now, that looks like a well made razor by skilled professional instead of a 'me too' amateur.

    Ralf Aust Special Edition...Epilogue.

Bottom line -damn fine razor. Sharp, excellent craftsmanship, good balance, and attractive (both in appearance and price).

Upon receiving this razor I put it on the strop (about 50 or so lapse each, Tony Miller cotton fabric and steerhide). No complaints; this blade was easily as sharp out of the box as some re-honed shave ready blades I have had experience with..and that is a very good thing.

I'm accustomed to a certain type of "keen" characteristic with a blade and after the shave I knew that although this edge was a good one, there was room for improvement. So, the day after, I cracked out my Robert Williams 6/8 half hollow..among the sharpest, keenest, most diabolical blades I own. It delivered its usual scary efficient shave...even managed to cut myself in the process. Now, keeping that in mind as a point of reference, the following day I redeployed the Aust, after a quick session of 75 small circles+10 x strokes on a Naniwa 8000 SS, followed by 50 small circles 10 x strokes on a Naniwa 12000 SS. 50 laps on the strop (50 each cotton and leather). Result? Simply wonderful. I need not say more. Ralf Aust makes a superlative razor. Yes, I am a fan......

From whom did you order this limited edition Aust? I looked on the Aust website and translated from German to English, and found nothing. Sent an email to Herr Aust and no reply. The remaining inventory may be depleted, but I'd like to check.
