Thanked: 0Puma 91 question
Good day, gentlemen of the forum - I have a quick question for the SRP hive-mind:
Should a Puma 91 have 3-pin scales? I'm looking at one at the moment, and the scales look more like those on the 89.
Could this be a ringer?
Rescaled 91 or re-bladed 89?

Thanked: 3164All the 89s I have seen have had 3-pin scales. I have only seen mock-tortoiseshell scaled 91s and these are three pin scales too, but the ends are squared in the 91 rather than rounded as in the 89. I expect there are variations in both though.
However, isn't the model number stamped on the tang???
Regards,
Neil

Thanked: 0Yes, the tang is stamped 91 PUMA on the left side (numbers running across, letters running along, inside a rectangle), and Lauterjung & Sohn with the Puma logo in a diamond on the right side.
The same logo is inlaid in the left scale, possibly in silver.
Scales are cream coloured, possibly celluloid.

Thanked: 3164Oh - I see, sorry. When you said re-balded it was sort of confusing - could have been taken two ways and I chose the wrong one - typical!
I guess you will just have to Google as many 91s as you can in order to give yourself an informed opinion. putting 'images' in the search phrase or choosing 'images' in the results bar should bring up a fair few.
As I said, I have had a few myself and a handful in for honing and they all had the mock-tortoiseshell scales, three pins, squared-off ends. Nice looking, in my opinion.

Neil
