Thanked: 0JH Wagstaff and Son, Newport
Hi All,
I've been using a shavette for a while and have been wanting to take the dive and get a straight razor. As such I have bought a straight razor off of eBay and am hoping you can help me with some history and whether it is any good. It is a jh wagstaff and son MOSDA. Any information on these razors would be much appreciated.
Thanks

For a first shaver, an eBay purchase may not be the best choice. Start here Category:Straight Razor Database - Straight Razor Place Library and then try the library for any information on your new purchase. Oh, by the way, welcome.

Thanked: 580Photos would help to tell if razor is any good. Also was it advertised as shave ready? If not I would send it out to get pro honed by one of the members here so you start off on the right foot.

Thanked: 580Nice looking razor. On the main page there is a beginners guide, worth reading. If it is shave ready, you shouldn't need to strop it for your first shave. It is a learning curve but worth the effort.

Well I can see the seller JH Wagstaff and Son was from Newport South Wales, and the Mon was an abbreviation for Monmouth which was the old Boundaries before Newport eventually became Gwent.

Thanked: 580Can't help with the history, but*JH Wagstaff and Son were probably retailers and more than likely it is made in Germany, so it should be a good razor.
