    Default antique shave gear

    Greetings All:
I'm a recent convert to wet shaving and acquired my great grand father's shave gear. I was hoping someone on this forum could provide me some details about the age and background of these items
The brush is an Ever - Ready, very stiff bristles. Badger, Boar, any thoughts?
The razor has no markings. The only distinguishing feature is a carved design of a heron with a fish. I was wondering what the handle is made of, who the manufacture might be.
    Thanks for the help.

Welcome to SRP and the wet shave club! From what I can see you have a boar hair shaving brush that has seen a little wear buts looks perfectyl servicable. The scales (handle) of your razor are made out a material called celluliod. Its an early form of plastic. The molding of the Heron was a farily common design for molded handles, so probably won't be a huge help in finding out the maker. The Tonsorial Gem barber hone looks to be in great shape and should serve you well.

Make sure and check out the Library. Lots of great info for new guys and old alike.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

If you would like to learn to shave with it have a professional honemeister put an edge on it for you and then check out all the vids by Lynn Abrams and Gssixgun. You will also need a strop and time learning how to use it. Oh, and welcome aboard.

    All,
    Thanks for the quick response.
Not sure if razor was my grandfather's or Great Grandfather's but I'm pretty certain the mug was from my GGfather, My grandfather engraved the date his father; Seldon died on it; 1932. He fought in the civil war. I'm honored to use it.

I love these types of threads. You are one very lucky fella to have inherited such great items from your Great Grand Dad and or Grand Dad.

Get the razor hone buy someone that knows what he's doing and put it to use.
