Thanked: 127Bern Extra Razor with ultrathin ground, has anyone Infos?
I got this Razor a few Days ago from a lot, bought in the UK but now i have the Problem, i dont know nothing about it
The Razor ist 13/16" wide (maybe it was 7/8"), full hollow with belly grind and incredible thin grounded, i only saw one similar thin razor as long as i collect Razors before, a very thin Beter Modello XXXX based on a No.14 Blanket.
The Nail Test shows an aluminium-foil like thin Blade producing a bulp up to wall with nearly no pressure but its own weight.
As you can imagine, the sound is very loud and im sure (didnt shaved with it until today) that it will be a very gentle Shaver.
Has anyone sawn this Razor before or has additional infos about it?

Thanked: 127Im Allright, especially after the Shave with the Bern yesterday, how
about yourself, i hope youre fine too?!
Im a bit confused if its really a german Razor, Bern seem swiss to me, but i dont know if there had been an market for Straights in Switzerland. The Shave with it yesterday was something special to me, it was a very clean shave but acting with this very thin blade is something new to me and it will take a few shaves until im used to (especially after the last monts when i used nearly only rigid blade razors like Framebacks and not very thin grounded Hollow Razors)

Thanked: 3164There was (and is) a market for straight razors and accessories in Switzerland.
The Allegro paddle strop, made in Lucerne, springs to mind - there were various models (some for razor blades rather than straight razors) and some came in a container with a razor - I have seen then bundled with Henckels german razors, for instance:
There is a big Swiss shop here that sells knives, cutlery and straights - maybe that is the source (in the past) of your razor? Or a hardware store like it.
There were several other swiss razor makers of repute, too. Vintage Jacques LeCoultre au Sentier spring to mind:
Regards,
Neil
The writing on yours is reminiscent of a 1930s german razor I have, but the design is a bit unusual.Last edited by Neil Miller; 06-27-2014 at 02:44 PM.

Thanked: 127@Neil: Im sorry but i think i caused a litlle missunderstanding, when i wrote "Market for Razors in Switzerland" i didnt meant that there wasnt a market, of course i know about Allegro, LeCoultre and a variety of Safety Razors. I meant that i dont know if there was a remarkable Razor Industry for Hollow Grounded Razors, most Razors i saw from Switzerland had been French Style Framebacks and only a very few Hollow Ground Straights.
I apologize, sometimes when i try to write in the same speed like in my mother language unpleasant Mistakes happen :-(
